THE LATE MR. R. MARSACK.

IMPRESSIVE CHURCH SERVICE. TRIBUTE FROM ARCHBISHOP. The high esteem in which the late Mr. Richard Marsack, ex-superintendent of police, was held by all with whom he came in contact was demonstrated by the large and representative gathering which attended a special funeral service conducted by Archbishop Averill in St. Andrew's Church, Epsom, yesterday afternoon.

The archbishop paid a warm tribute to the work of Mr. Marsack and feelingly expressed gratitude for the great service rendered by him to the Church and the State. The archbishop said he had known Mr. Marsack for many years and had fqund him to be a man of grit, determination and perseverance, with strong convictions. "I shall always think of Richard Marsack as a great Christian gentleman," continued Dr. Averill, who mentioned valued services rendered to the Church, Devotion to duty prevented Mr. Marsack from taking much-needed rest and by his death the Church had lost a faithful servant. He expressed sympathy with the bereaved relatives and said the memory of Mr Marsack would always be greatly cherished.

The archbishop was assisted in the service by his chaplain, Archdeacon W. J. Simkin, Canon C. L. Tuke, acting-vicar of St. Andrew's parish, and the Rev. P. S. Smallfield, who also officiated at the service at Waikumete Cemetery. There was a large number of beautiful floral tributes.

At the funeral Mrs. Marsack, with her daughters and son, Mr. Charles Marsack, were the principal mourners. A cousin of the deceased, Dr. A. E. Marsack, and his son were also present. The Police Department was represented by Superintendent W. G. Wohlmann, Inspector J. Mcllveney and Sub-Inspector F. Lewin, while ex-officers included Messrs. J. Cullen, C. W. Hendrey and P. McMahon. The Papatoetoe' Orphan Home was represented by Dr. E. Roberton, Mr. J. H. Hutchinson, the Rev. P. C. Davis and Miss Hooker, matron, while Mr. C. F. Bennett represented the Children's Home, Richmond Road, and Mr. C. K. Grierson, St. Mary's Homes, Otahuhu. Other Church organisations with which Mr. Marsack was associated were represented by Archdeacon H. A. Hawkins (Melanesian Finance Board), Messrs. A. D. Stanley and W. M.. Rayner (Church of England Men's Society) and Mr. J. T. Williams (Social Service Board). Messrs. H. Frost and J. B. Lusk, church wardens, represented St. Andrew's Church, of which Mr. Marsack was a parishioner.

The Auckland Justices of the Peace Association was represented by the president, Mr. A. J. Stratford, and Messrs. J. H. Fray, R. T. Michaels and C. Wheeler.
