AN AT HOME.

The Victoria League held an At Home in its rooms in Shortland Street yesterday afternoon, when the following visitors from the South were entertained:—Mrs. Haggit and Miss Tolmie, of Dunedin, Mrs, D. W. Duthie, Mrs. E. Moss and Miss Gordon, Wellington, Mrs. Overton, Christchurch and Mrs. McQuade, New Plymouth. TKo president, Miss Mowbray, who received the guests, in expressing a welcome to the visitors, said the league had much pleasure "in entertaining members from other branches. This, she said, was one of the many advantages gained by the league in having its own rooms. Formerly work was earned on in very congested quarters, but now the additional space had permitted a room for entertaining as well as a kitchenette and library for the book-work. The everready sub-committee, had, by the result from a jumble sale, raised funds towards the furnishing, which added both to the comfort and appearance of the room The girls' sub-committee, which had already done so much for charitable organisations in the city, was now making an effort to raise funds towards- snp- . porting a cot at the hospital and with this end in view was organising an enteri tainment to be held on August 2 at St Mark's Hall. Miss Mowbrav heartily commended the girls in their interest and practical activities on behtdf of those who were sick and suffering With regard to the writing of letters by members of the league to English boys settled in the country, Miss Mowbray asked that this should be undertaken by a greater number of the members in view of tha fact that the boys so much appreciated this attention Letters were th«m read by Miss Fento/i from the boys who, In reply to those received, had written to say how much pleasure the letters had given them. Tho rooms wera charmingly decorated with bowls of wattle and spring flowers, and each visitor was presented with a posy of violets. During the afternoon f#a was served.
