LONELY ROVER'S FEAT.
OVER OCEAN IN SMALL BOAT.
GALE IN THE MID-ATLANTIC. LONDON, June 20. Captain Thomas Drake, calls himself " The Lone &» Rover, has arrived at Plymouth in an eight-ton schoonerrigged boat, The Pilgrim of Seattle, after sailing alone for 54 days from Charleston (South Carolina). Although the boat was provide 3 with an auxiliary motor, the entire voyage was made under sail. Captain Drake intended visiting the Asiores, but terrific seas prevented his approach. He sighted only five vessels between the Bermudas and the English f Channel.
During a raging gale in the mid-Allan-tic the intrepid navigator hove-to and retired to his cabin for 96 hours. He did not miss a single meal or a single night's sleep.
Captain Drake will leave shortly for Norway.
