RAIDS BY THIEVES.
THEFTS FROM CARD PLAYERS. TWO WOMEN VICTIMISED. Two card parties were held in Caulfield, Melbourne, one evening recently, and money and valuables, disappeared from both places during the progress of (lie entertainments. For some time thieves have been gaining entrance to bedrooms during house parties and stealing jewellery. The police believe that 'a cleverly-organised gang is operating. At Mrs. Powell's home friends were being and when Mrs. Powell went to her bedroom she found that a bag, containing £9O worth of jewellery, had been stolen. The bag was discovered outside by the night patrol. Mrs. Agnes Steakman, of South Yarrn, went to a card party at Caulfield, with a £IOO note and a £5 note in her handbag. The money was intact at 12.30 a.ni.. but was missing at 2.30 a.m. The bag was found empty under a table.
