BIBLE IN SCHOOLS BILL.
CANVASS OF CITY AREAS. The committee organised by eight leading Protestant churches in the city area to foster interest in the Bible in Schools Bill, to be presented to Parliament next month, and to organise a. canvass of the parents of scholars at State schools in the city, met on Tuesday evening, Canon Grant Cowen presiding. Mr. Cowen expressed regret that at the last two meetings only three churches were represented, and that under ihe circumstances it was impossible properly to canvass the large districts. It was stated that over £2OO had been spent in circulating pamphlets among parents asking for their support in the movement. Several canvassers had collected small'sums by way of subscriptions. The secretary had approached seraral headmasters of the schools with a view to obtaining a list of scholars and their addresses, but had not received aisistan^e. The Rev. J. Lamb Harvey and the Rev. C. A. B. Watson undertook to distribute remaining pamphlets in their districts. Over 80 per cent, of the parents in the districts already visited had agreed to support ihe movement.
It was decided to make a fin;»l effort to canvass the remaining areas.
