LABOUR CONFERENCE.
INSURANCE OF WORKERS. UNIVERSAL SCHEME DESIRED. (Received June 14, 7.25 p.m.) A. and N.Z. GENEVA, June 14. The International Labour Conference is likely to adopt two important conventions. One relates to the compulsory sickness insurance of workers in industry and commerce, and outworkers and domestic servants. The -other relates to agricultural workers. The employers' delego-tes ho.vo notified that they will abstain from voting on the draft conventions, while the workers' group, although they consider the schemes far from satisfactory, will vote in their favour.
Mention wai. frequently made in the debates of the work of the Australian Royal Commission, and the opinion was expressed that if the conventions are adopted they will bo valuable in connection with any action that may be contemplated by the Australian Government. The discussion at the plenary sessions indicate that there is a general desire for some universal scheme of sickness insurance.
