LINDBERGH AT NEW YORK.
UNPRECEDENTED WELCOME VAST CROWDS IN STREETS. RECEPTION AT THE CITY HALL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrisht. (Received June 14, 6.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z.-Sun. NEW YORK, June 13. The American airman, Captain Charles Lindbergh, hero of the first New YorkParis flight, arrived in New York this morning. Ho had flown alone from Washington. Captain Lindbergh landed on the Mitchell field, from which he had left for Paris. Ho then boarded a civic tug and was brought to the city, where he received a welcome unparelleled in its history. The airman was driven in a motor-car through the financial district. The streets were crowded with shouting thousands. An official reception was held at the City Hall. Thero he received decorations from the Mayor, Mr. J. J. Walker, and the Governor of tho State, M'F. A. Smith. Tho reception far surpassed anything ever before experienced in New York. Tho entire city wore a carnival air. Millions of people lined Broadway from the Battery to the City Hall. Enormous crowds of police were utterly unable to cope with the crowds and it took a considerable time to clear a path to enable Captain Lindbergh to land from the tug. Bands played, whistles and sirens screamed, the streets were littered ankledeep with confetti and streamers, some of which caught fire and almost caused a panic.
Showers of paper flung from upstairs windows prevented many people from seeing the airman. Hundreds of women fainted in the crush.
