Thursday By Gazette to-night the Wellington City Council is authorised to raise a loan of £4OOO for the provision of relief works for unemployed. RENEWAL OF COAL CONTRACT. WORK FOR HIKURANGI MINERS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WHANGAREI. Thursday. It was announced last week that owing to the completion of a special contract, 38 men at the Hikurangi Coal Company's mine would be discharged to-day. The welcome statement has now been made that the contract has been renewed, and the men will continue in employment.
