SPECTACLE OF THE NATIONS. AID FOR A WORTHY CAUSE. In order to raise funds for the Auckland branch of the Plunket Society, a stage pageant, depicting episodes in the history of many nations, will be held in the Town Hall for three nights, commencing to-morrow. The entertainment, which promises to be of a picturesque and unique character, has been organised by Madame Edith Baird, a newcomer to Auckland, who enjoys a London reputation as a producer of brilliant pageantry. The intention of the producer is to present . a series of colourful spectacles symbolical of familiar and unfamiliar festivals, carnivals and holidays in 16 different A mingling of the East and West, the poles with the tropics, should lend enchantment to a novel entertainment, in which pleasing contrast ' will be obtained by animated pictures of | varying emotional character, of festivals ; of rejoicing, ceremonies of religious worship. days of pastoral thanksgiving and ! national holidays devoted to scenes of revelry. National costumes, dances and i music, and the participation of 400 Auckland girls should all combine to enhance the illusion.
Tile Plunket Society hopes to realise from the proceeds of "the pageant a substantial contribution to the £IOOO fund which will render possible a reduction of the mortgage on the new headquarters in Symonds Street. Although this will not enable the entire cost of the building to be repaid, it will so reduce the liability as to constitute a reasonable rental of the interest on the balance!. *
