DI PINEDO'S PLANS.

. .—.— SHORT STAY IN NEW YORK. PROSPECT OF WORLD FLIGHTS. A.and N.Z. NEW YORK. April 25. The Italian aviator, the Marchese di Pinedo. whose arrival had been kept as secret as possible, reached New York by tram from Washington at 2 a.m. today. Extraordinary arrangements had been made to assure his personal safety, because the threat of a possible anti-Fascist demonstration had been made. A group of special detectives known as the bomb squad, who were reinforced by uniformed patrolmen and railway police, jnet his train. The Italian Consul-General, Signor Emilio Axerio, and his staff greeted the aviator. The Consul showed, the greatest reluctance to permit anybody else to meet him. The marchese said he looked back on his Australian flight as a very pleasant experience, particularly the welcome accorded to him upon his arrival. It was more like a home-coming than a visit. The flight to Australia had its difficulties and its peculiar hazards, which were in many respects greater than those met in his recent transatlantic flight. Yet many other phases of the transatlantic journey were more trying, particularly the long non-stop jump across the Atlantic. The aviator declined to venture an opinion concerning the prospects of regular round-the-world commercial flying, that is, between Europe and Australia and the United States and back. The difficulties and dangers of the journey at present were so great that such a venture would have to be considered as highly experimental until future developments should have more clearly indicated the practical features of such a worldflight. The marchese" intends to make a short Etay in New York. He will then possibly make a tour to several American cities with a new aeroplane before starting on his return journey to Italy via the Azores.
