'i . . ■■ V ; - After being in (he possession of the Society of Arts for over 20 years, the society's well-known property in Kitchener Street was offered at auction by. Samuel Vaiie and Sons, Ltd., yesterday. The building, which is built in concrete, has two storeys at the front and three at the back, and stands on a freehold allotment with a frontage of 45ft. to Kitchener Street and a depth of 82ft. In addition to the exhibition gallery there are a large hall and several committee rooms. Since its erection a large number of tenants have occupied the building. There was a large attendance at the auction rooms yesterday afternoon.. Bidding on the whole was keen. The first offer was £6OOO, but this price rose sharply by £SOO and £250 bids. Eventually the property was withdrawn from sale at' £8875. Private negotiations for sale are now proceeding.
