NORTHCLIFFE CASE.

REHEARING NOT GRANTED. JUDGE REBUKES MISS OWEN. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Feb. 15. Mr. Justice Astbury dismissed the application made by Miss Louise Owen for a rehearing of the case in which she asked that certain sales of newspapers in the estate of the late Lord Northcliffe by his trustees should be set aside, in which judgment was given for the defendants. The Judge said: " Miss Owen is an extremely dangerous woman. It is due to those wh., are concerned in this case that my view concerning he should be placed on record." Miss Owen alleged that she withdrew her case on the previous hearing only because she understood from Sir. W. A. Jowitt, K.C., who was her counsel in that case, that Lord Kothennere, a brother of the late Lord Northcliffe, had agreed to pay her costs and to contribute to charities which she should name. She is dow represented by Mr. W. H. Upjohn, K.C., who had some sharp exchanges with the Judge in connection with his railing Mr. Jowitt as a witness in the case. Sir John Simon, K.C., M.P., counsel for the other side, asked the Judge to vindicate Lord Eothermere from the baseless charge made by Miss Owen, as no undertaking whatsoever had been entered into. Sir Patrick castings, K.C., M-P-, endorsed this, and said there was also a grave and equally baseless charge made against M" Jowitt. In giving judgment, Mr. Justice Astbury said the case contained some of the most disgraceful innuendoes he had ever bad the misfortune to list-en to. Everyone . concerned in the case had been gravely insulted. Mr. Jowitt's denial of the charge j against hint carried the utmost conviction j that fc* had spoken the {rath entirely and \ literally. On the ether hand, Miss J Owen's evidence was absolutely false. j
