OCEAN YACHT RACING.
TAURAMGA AND RUSSELL. COMMENCEMENT ON FRIDAY. THE ENTRIES AND HANDICAPS. The annual ocean races to Tuuranga and Russell will start from Auckland on Friday evening. Both events will be started on the five-flag system from the launch Maroro, the starting line being between the Maroro and King's Wharf. ■ The Tauranga boats will be sent away first at 7 o'clock, the entries and handicaps being:—Waitangi, scr.; Ngatoa, sm; Heartsease, 45m; Gooee, lh 45m; Queeme. 2h; Speedwell. 2li 30m; Wairiki, 2h 30m; Lady Sterling, 8h 30m, The course for this event is from starting-line direct to the finishing line, between the Blinker light and boat moored north. Should the race finish at night, a light will be placed on the judges boat. Two races will bo held to Russell, one for keel boats, and the other for centreboard classes. The keel yachts will start at 7.15 and the centreboard classes at 7.30. Following are the entries and handicaps:— Keel Yachts.—Ariki, scr.; Moana, 2hlsm; Prize, 2h 15m; Waiarie, 4h sm; Kotiri, 4h sm; Rangi, 4h 50m; Ngahau, 4h 50m; Scout, 5h 20m; Windward, 5h 20m; Deiville, sb. 35m; Gloriana, 6h 30m. Centreboard Boats.—Waitere 11, scr; Starlight, scr.; Sadie, 55m; Spray, lh sm; Otira, 2h 10m; Ngaru 11, 2h 30m; Forest Gold, 2h 35m; Marere, 2h 40m; Waima, 2h 45m; Louisa, 2h 50m; Wairere, 3h 20m. The course for the Russell race is from starting-line direct to finishing line between the Russell Wharf and the whaler Hananui moored south. In the event of the boats finishing a.t night the line will be between a red light on the Russell Wharf and the Hananui'a riding light. Mr. J. H. Frater will act as starter and will be assisted by Mr. W. A. Wilkinson.
