MOTOR DRIVERS CHARGED.
DEATH OF A PASSENGER. INQUEST AT TAIHAPE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COIUJBSPONttBST.J TAJ.HAPE. Tuesday, The inquest concerning the death of George Robert Sutherland, who whs killed in a motor accident at the foot of Kawa Road on December 11, was concluded to-day. • A charge of manslaughter preferred against the driver of the car, John William Mahoney, was withdrawn by the police, and the following substituted:-. That, while in a state of intoxication and in control of a motor-car, he, l>y an act of omission in relation thereto, caused the death of deceased. After lengthy evidence, in which the police and two doctors certified that Mahoney was drunk at the time of tho accident, the coroner, ]\lr. J. P. Aldri'dj?®, gave a verdict that deceased was killed by the overturning of a car driven by Mahoney while the said Mahoney was in a state of intoxication. Mahoney was committed for trial. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £IOO. FATALITY IN CHRISTCHURCH. NEGLIGENT DRIVING ALLEGED. [BY I'ELKGIUrH.—OWN COHRHSrONOTNT.] CHRISTCHURCH. TueiwSw. When driving a motor-car along Victoria Street on November 24 Arthur Howard Murray knocked down Mr. Charles Nelson, who subsequently died us the result of his injuries. To-day Murray was charged in tun Magistrate'# Court with causing Nelson's' death through negligent driving. He 'pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, < Bail of £IOO was allowed. =======2=2==
