NEW ZEALAND BUTTER.
IMPORTS INTO AUSTRALIA. DEMAND FOR HIGHER DIXIT. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Dec. 16. At the quarterly meeting of the executive of the Primary Producers' Union a motion was carried expressing the opinion that it vras imperative that the duty on New Zealand butter should be increased to sixpence a pound and to sixpence a pound 0:11 cheese, with a corresponding increase in the general tariff. It was; also resolved that in the event of the Federal Government not acceding to • the impost of a duty of sixpence a pound on New Zealand butter the union should circularise all kindred organisations in other States impressing upon them the advisability of making this a leading question to candidates at the next Federal elections'.
