GREAT RACE FOR THE CUP. RIGHT AND LEFr WINS AGAIN. THIRD SUCCESSIVE VICTORY.. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] DARGAVILLE, Thursday The Dargaville race meeting was opened to-day in fine weather, but two heavy showers fell, one during the running of the cup and one during the last race. The course was in good order, and the attend ance well up to the average. The totalisa tor handled £8290 10s, against £9OG7 on the corresponding day last year. After a splendid finish Right and Left won the Dorgaville Cup for the third time. He made a great effort at the home turn and gradually overhauled Golden Krist. who had been in the lead from the start Righi and Left wou by a head amid great excite ment. The win of Delightment in the Avoca Handicap was well received. The | I'orse met with nn accident coming up_ on the boat, but this did not affect his running, and after holding a good position right through he won easily. [BY telegraph.—-own correspondent.] DARGAVILLE, Thursday. In the maiden race at the Dargaville meeting Wee Marble took the lead at the start. but gave waj' to Takaranga, who was still in the lead across the top, with Edifioe and Master Arch his nearest attendants. When they straightened up for home Takaranga held his own and won easily from Edifice, In the Tokatoka Handicap Festina Lente was backed down to a very short price. From a good start Illingar rushed to the front and, although '.tackled by Adjuster and Festina Lente, easily held his own and won with ease. Marble Mount was fourth. Thursby had bad luck at the start. The Kaihu Hurdles, the first race of the kind held fox years on the course, drew eight starters, of whom Scot Free was a good favourite. Queen Emerald and Scot Free were the leaders from a good start and showed the way to the. hurdle in tho straight, where Scot Free lost his rider. Queen Emerald continued in the lead, with Turn and Kaiamu handy at tffe top. In the run home the Quin Abbey mare held her own and won by half a. length, with Karamu well back third. The Settlers' Handicap saw lllingar, who had been penalised 10lb, go out a hot favourite from Miss Lucullus and Lady Lois, lllingar had the race won from the start. Lady Lois beat St. Lucas over the last bit and gained second money by a neck. In the Cup, Rig:ht and Left was made a strong favourite'and fully justified the confidence of his supporters. Golden Krist tried tp win from end to end and went past the stand just in front of Thursby, Festina Lente and Passionate, with Right and Left not far away Ai the back Golden Krist had a clear lead of Thursby. Crossing the top the whole field were close together, biit Golden Krist still had the lead, and halfway op the straight looked as if he would still prevail. Henderson, however, sat down to ride Right and Left, who responded t<D the call and gradually wore the light-weight down to win a good race by a head. Thursby, who hung ou well, was third. The winner got a great reception on returning to weigh in. For the Avoca Handicap Archibald was better backed than Lady Lois and Delightment. The running was taken up by Delightment and Archibald, but tho former was steadied and the field was bunched when the straight was reached. Then De lightment ran home an easy winner from Archibald, who cut Miss Lucullus down over the last five yards. Lady Loia was fourth. For the Awakino Hack Handicap Coronex was favourite, Alonsoa being next choice Bright Dawn began best, but was soon dis placed by Wee Marble and Alonsoa. Scot Free was just ahead of a bunched field at the distance, where he stumbled slightly and Alonsoa, ; who had got going again, came up on the outside and, finishing very fast, won a good race by a length from Scot Free, with Coronex close up fourth. In the last race of the day. the Hobson Handicap. Comet King was backed down to a very short price. Lady Arch and Maniahara showed the way from a bunched field to the home turn, where Just Quietly, | Clockwork and Waning Light appeared in i the picture.
