The Depredation—Leshargic colt and the Swift Flight—Miss Dix colt, went a couple of furlongs on the two-year-old track at Ellerslie yesterday in 29 2-ss. The indications point to Mr. A. B. Williams'' pair, Rapine and Star Stranger, both contesting the Auckland Cup, as it is announced that R Reed will ride Rapine and B. H. Morris Star Stranger. Master Doon pleased the tra, ckwatchers by hia. sprinting effort over five furlongs yesterday, when he defeated Cawnpore and White Bird in smart time. It is evident that he is none the worse for his spring campaign, and ho should strip in excellent olrder on Boxing Day If racing over .'middle distances has not dulled his be- • ginning ability, he may be hard to beat in the Railway Handicap, a, race he won two years ago. No definite arrangements have yet been made, but it is likely that N. Cunningham will have some of hia team, racing at the holiday meetings in Taranaki. If the trip eventuates Chips and Royal Picture may be two ol his representatives at the southern fixtures. Nothing very strenuous has- been exacted from Serang lately and it will occasion no surprise to find his name missing from the list of acceptors ifor the Railway Handicap. Serang had to be stopped in his work after racing at To Rapa last month as a result of being galloped on, and will require to come on auickly to have prospects at the coming meeting. The three-year-old War Officer hit out fairly, well in his work yesterday. . but he will have to improve considerably upon his public efforts this season to win a race at Ellerslie. Hiß recent form has been a good deal below expectations, but there is still time for Mm to improve. Tutankhamen, who recorded a smart< effort over four furlonsu at Ellerslie on Tuesday, is likely to find nis way to Australia in the near future. The Sands of the Orient geld ing has not shown any form for some time, but he ran a fair race at Takapuna and is returning to form Ho irfyiy be capable of •winning over short courses at the minor meetings on the other side. The four-year-old gelding King of the Air (by Quin Abbey—Rhodium), who went amiss as a two-year-old and Has had a long spell, is once again being trained at Ellerslie by E. Pope. He was popped over a pony hurdle yesterday and cleared it satisfactorily. Danae, who has disappointed in her engagements this season, has been working usefully and has a bright appearance. It was not until th«' autumn that she struck form last season and she may do better as the season advances. The Catmint gelding Bluespear has improved a good cleal in appearance since coming to Ellerslie, but he has not been very seriously tried yet. Like most of his sire's progeny, he has good size and should be improved with age. Chairman missed a place in the Flying Handicap at Te Awamutu. but he was running on strongly at the finish after being badly placed early. The Nassau gelding has never been better than at present and it should not be for lack of condition if he fails to race prominently at the coming meeting. Merry Damon has been disappointing this ' season and has been unplaced in each of his seven starts. There has been nothing out of the ordinary about his recent track doings, but he bears a healthy appearance and may race in improved fashion in his coming engagements. Any time he reproduces his best form he is going to be hard : to beat. The three-year-old King Emerald is moving along nicely in his work without doing anything Bpeeial and looks more solid than he did earlier in the season. This fellow has sufficient ability to pay ; his way in hack company, but he may not be improved by racing out of his class A hack at Ellerslie that may be worth keeping in mind for minor meetings later on is Waitekohe. who ran fourth in the race won by his 3table mate, Bahama, at Takapuna. Waitekohe has been working usefully and appears to be steadily ou the improve. The recent importations, Cynthia N. and Tidal, have been pottering about the middle at Ellerslie and are settling down nicely iin • thoir new quarters. Cynthia N.. who i was very light on arrival, is building up ! gradually. Tidal is a robust customer and has a good appearance. The two-year-old filly Exalted is a regular attendant "at Ellerslie and will not lack condition for her coming engagements fhe class she will have to meet at the summer meeting mav be above her un'ess she can show improvement upon her previous performances. H. Jury left for New Plymouth yesterday with Kyngzone who is to race at the holiday meeting in Taranaki. hyngzone has shown some pace on the track, and may show up in his engagements. There has not been a great deal of interest in the recent track doings at Ellerslie owing to the fact that none of the southern representatives have yet arrived. A large contingent of visitors are expected to arrive by special train to-morrow and their arrival will cause increased interest. The outside of the course proper was :in beautiful order yesterday and there should be some good galloping next eel:. Princess Ronnie is in snieidid trim after her racing and is moving iib freedom in her work. She executed her abc-furlong gallop in good style yesterday, when she recorded one of the Lest efforts of the , morning. J
