UNEMPLOYED SOLDIERS.

PLIGHT OF DISABLED MEN. INADEQUACY OF PENSIONS. APPEAL FOR LIGHT WORK. Art appeal to citizens to put any wort possible,, such as gardening and light cleaning jobs, in the way of disabled sol diers unable to undertake heavy work was made by the Claims Board of the Auckland Patriotic Association at th< meeting of that body yesterday. The report of the Claims Board state* that during the past quarter 505 appli cants had been granted assistance, a tota of £2361 being involved. The figures fc: the quarter showed a largo increase ovci the corresponding quarters for the pas three years and there was no doubt tha' this had been caused chiefly through re curring war disability and the unusua amount of unemployment prevailing in tin city, which severely affected many par tiaily disabled men. "The board is continuing its policy o assisting soldiers suffering from disability who have been refused war pensions bu have appealed to the War Pensions Appea Board to have their cases determined,' stated the report. "There are a numboi of men at the present time suffering minoi disability who are able to undertake ligh work, which is difficult to obtain. The war pension alone, in many cases, is in sufficient to support them. As in sc many cases the class of light work whief they can undertake does not appear to b< available, such cases, according to th< disability, receive consideration from th< board. The board earnestly appeals to th< citizens to put any work possible, suet as gardening and light cleaning jobs, ir the way of these men." It was further stated that tha boarc desired to place on record its approcia tion of the work of the War Pension; Appeal Board. The work of this bod} was giving satisfaction to the majority oi the ex-soldiers who found it necessary tc appear before it. Title report was received.
