FORGERY OF CHEQUES.
OFFENDER'S ADMISSION. | COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. [[BY TELEGRAPH. OWS CORRESPONDENT. ] * CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Roland George Collins wis before Mr. jE. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day on charges of forgery. Collins, who "was well dressed, was a salesman iin Auckland, according to a statement he made to the police and he served two jand a-half years in Mount Eden Gaol for false pretences. After his release on May 27 of this year lie went to Wellington, where he later pot a position with the Provident Life Assurance Company, Ltd. He collected £l4 6s 8d for his employers and with the money he .came to Christchurch, where he embarked on the further crimes that (resulted in his being arrested again. At this time he was occupying the same room at a boarding house as Francis Edward Diggle, who went under the name of Cecil Frank Wilson, while Collins was known as R. Ward. Diggle was also arrested for his complicity in one of Collins' schemes. Collins was charged with forging cheques for various amounts, with the intent that they should be acted upon as genuine. He ' pleaded guilty and was .committed to the Supreme Court- for sentience. Diggle pleaded guilty to a charge that knowing a cheque for £l6 10s to be false he caused it to be acted upon as if it were genuine. He was also committed for sentence.
