BUTTER AND CHEESE.

NEXT TWO MONTHS' EXPORTS. SPACE ALLOTMENTS MADE. AUCKLAND'S LARGE SHARE* Space allotments for 612,891 boxes of butter and 265,500 crates of cheese have been made by the Dairy Produce Board for 20 steamers scheduled to leave New Zealand ports between December 15 (tomorrow) and February 15, and to arrive in England between Jamuary 22 and March 31. Auckland produce included in these allotments totals 402,799 boxes of butter and 38,701 crates of cheese. As showing the dominating position of the Auckland Province in butter production it may bo noted that two-thirds, or 66 per cent., of the Dominion's experts in the next two months will be shipped from this port. These figures, of course, take no account of domestic consumption, and it should be remembered that in addition the local market, comprising one-third of the Dominion's population, will also be supplied by the factories. Providing for Change Over. Auckland does not cut so fine a figure in the export of cheese, sending away only 38,701 crates of the Dominion's export of 265,500 crates. The proportion in this case is only one in seven, or a little more than 14 per cent. There is, however, one feature common to Auckland and the rest of the Dominion—the much smaller space allotments made for cheese after midseason is passed. Thus for the first month from December 15 the allotments total 186,169 crates and for the second only 79,331 crates. No doubt the board is afiticipating the periodic swing-over from cheese to butter, with the coming of the new year, a change induced partly. by overseas market conditions and partly by the butter-fat content of th© milk due'to hardening of the pastures in the warmer, drier months. Great Britain's Large Share. All the dairy produce is being loaded for Great Britain with the exception of 30,000 boxes of butter on the Arawa and another 30,000 on the Devon which are for New York and Halifax, the former port taking 40,000 and the latter 20,000 boxes. These consignments should arrive in North America in February and March respectively. West Coast ports of the United Kingdom are to receive the whole of the Turakina's dairy produce and a portion of the Huntingdon's. Details of Allotments. Following are details of allotments on the various steamers, showing the date of departure from New Zealand ports, the due date in the United Kingdom, and the number of boxes of butter and crates of cheese shipped from Auckland and all Dominion ports, the figures for butter being given above those for cheese in each case:— Depart Due From Dmn. ™ U-E- Auck.
