TOWN-PLANNING WORK.
MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH, START TO BE MADE NEXT YEAR. The first step toward formulating a definite planning scheme in the Mount Eden borough was made recently by the Borough Council, when it was recommended that an area subject to special by-laws should be made. This area is at the east side of Mount Eden Road from Boston Road to Stewart Street and Normanby Road, and along the latter road. Properties fronting Mount Eden Road and Dominion Road are also included.
Explaining tho position yesterday, the Mayor, Mr. E. H. Potter, said it had been decided to take advantage of, the Town Planning Act and definitely fix the business and residential areas in the borough. Tho matter was still under consideration but, broadly speaking, it was proposed to confine the business area to Mount Eden Road and Dominion Road and to keep the factories in the vicinity of Boston Road and Stewart Street. A town-planning scheme would be prepared early next year and would receive every consideration before it was finalised. It was the intention of the. council, added Mr. Potter, to approach the Government regarding the provision of a bridge over tho railway line near Normanby Road, giving outlet to Boston Road, and so to the new railway station through Grafton Road.
