RACES ON SATURDAY, INTERESTING TRIAL FOURS. WAITEMATA BOATING CLUB. The Waitemata Boating Club decided a, set of trial fours on Saturday afternoon for trophies presented by Mr. H. Buck. The course was from King's Wharf to the new reclamation. Six crews competed and a high standard of rowing marked with hard racing and class finishes -resulted. Mr. C. Cairns was starter and Mr. F. Goodall acted as judso. The crews in the first heat were:—W. Stevenson, A. Stewart, J. Russell, W. Share; D. Smith, A. Bryant, A. Dunn, T. Marshall; L. Brooker, T. Impey, K. Kenrick, W. Johnston. They went oS to a fine start and raced evenly until halfway. Brooker then started to forge ahead, closely followed by Smith. Reaching the new wall the three crews spurted and in a great finish. Brooker won by half a length from Smith, who was a length ahead of Stevenson. The orews in the second heat were;—A. Mackay, C. C. Cairns, H. Cullen, D. Gladding'; W. Lowe, J. Stevenson, C. Hunt, W. Jones; C. C. Pearon, J. Cotterall, L. Barker, C. Pitt. For nearly half the distance the crews- raced on level terms. Then Fearon took the load with Lowe and Mackay about level. Opposite the boathouses Fearon drew out a length. The same distance separated Lowe and Mackay. Reaching the new wall the crews spurted and Fearon won by nearly a length from Lowe, who beat Mackay by a length. The crews of Brookor o-nd Fearon met in the final. From a good start Fearon's crew soon shot ahead, but near halfway Brooker passed them. In front o£ the boat-houses Brooker held a length advantage and although at the new wall Fearon issued a challenge Brooker's crew got the verdict by three-quarters of a length, 'NORTH SHORE CLUB. MR. P. BEST'S TROPHIES. The members of the North Shore Rowing Club held a set of trial fours on Saturday afternoon for trophies presented by Mr. F. Best. The best of water .conditions prevailed and a fine series of races was witnessed, the rowing being of a very good standard. In the first heat the crews of W. Atkins and D. Davies met. They raced on practically level terms until, nearing the line. Davies spurted and shot ahead to win by half a length. The second heat crews were stroked by W. Dean and R. Follas. This was another even race for three-quarters of the journey. In the final spurt Follas went ahead to wm by a length. The crews of E. Korn and L. Challinor met in the third heat. Alfter half the journey was covered Korn's crew went ahead and won by just on two lengths. Tlie crews of D. Davies and R. Follas, which met in the semi-final, raced even in the open stages. Davies eventually forged ahead and won by two lengths. In the final the crews of E. Korn and D. Davies met. Davies took the lead in the last quarter and won by nearly two lengths.

ST. GEORGE'S CLUB. J ... .v .■ . ' ¥ MR. P. R, COLERROOKE'S TROPHIES. On Saturday afternoon the St. George's Rowing Club held a set of trial fours for trophies presented by Mr. P. R, Colebrooke. The course was along the embankment in Hobson Bay to the black buoy in Judge's Bay. Six crews competed. Mr. K. D. Page was judge and the starting was by mutual consent. The crews in the first heat were:—L. Schrafit, J. Coote, C. Kelleway, C. "Ward, Hpwse (cox); M Simons, J. Duncan. A. Davis. J. Goodman, Jervis (cos); H. Jackson, F. Solomon, V. Dunne, H. Tong, Syms (cox). Jackson's crew quickly took the lead and at the half-distance led comfortably. The crew then pulled a fine swinging stroke and won easily. The crews in the second heat were:—Y. Hargreaves, J. Duncan, R. Gooding. G. Hi slop, House (cox); D. Hugo, D. Hargreaves, E. Fort, J. Woodbury, Jervis (cox) • W. Wopdhouse, L. Simons, F. Olsen G. Sherrock, Syms (cox). The crews went off start and after 200 yds were covered Woolhouse moved to the front. Just on the three-quarter_ mark Woolhouse had over a length to his advantage. At the opening Hugo challenged arid gradually drew 'evei with the leaders. An exciting race ensued over the final hundred yards and in the last few strokes, Hugo's four, stroked by Hargreaves, shot ahead to win by the narrowest of margins. The final drew the crewsi of Jackson and Hugo. From a great start there was little between the crews to the quarter distance. Then Jackson forged ahead and with a lengths lead met a hard challenge from Hugo. In a hard finish Jackson maintained i the lead and won by a full length.
