RIFLE SHOOTING.

AKARANA CLUB. Members of the Akarana Rifle Club concluded the competition for the second series of trophies on Saturday afternoon. Weather conditions were fine for the first time this season, but a rear fishtail wind was sufficient to stop many from keeping in the bull's eye. The contest in A section for Mr. T. Elliott's trophy lesulted in a dead heat between Riflemen Boston, Draffin and Elliott. In the shoot-ofE the scoring was: Reston, 20; Elliott, 19; Draffin, 16; Reston securing the trophy. In the B section Mr. C. Or. Ashley's trophy remains in the balance. T. Elliott, senr. and Stan. Elliott tied, and will shoot off next Saturday. In the < C section Mr. A. G. Devoro's trophy was won outright by Master Don Ashley, aged 13, who is one of the finest shots in Auckland for his age. Silver spoons for the day were won by Riflemen W. Colquhoun, H. Dickey and D. CITY AND SUBURBAN CLUB.

The service championship competition was commenced by members of the Ciay and Suburban Rille Club on Saturday afternoon. Firing took , pla ; ce over the 200yda. and 300ydis. ranges, the series consisting of five rounds rapid at plates and six rounds at the running man at 200ys. At the larger range the shooting consisted of seven rounds in 255, and five rounds at the disc with three second exposures. The weather was fin© and several good scores were recorded.

Rifleman C. J. M. Clark secured 75 points, winning by a comfortable margin. He secured a possible" on the plates. Riflaman I. Spry, 55, Rifleman G. G. Kelly, 54, and Rifleman H. W. Verrall, 53, were next in order. Silver spoon® were won by JRiflemen Clark and Spry. Shooting will be carried out at the 600 and 700 yds. ranges next Saturday.
