LEAP FROM STEAMER.
MAORI MENTAL PATIENT. PROMPT RESCUE EFFECTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER Friday. When about half a mile from the break■water this morning the steamer Waintii •was stopped, owing to a mentally-afflicted Maori, who was being escorted to Porirua, jumping overboard. His escort, a Gisborne policeman, jumped into the water after him and held * him up until a beat from the Wainui picked up both men. They were given a change of clothes and afterwards joined the south-bound train.
