NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGES FOUR CHRISTCHURCH CASES. THE SUSPENSION OF LICENCES. [BY telegraph.—-own correspondent.] CHRII3TCHURCH. Friday. Charges of negligent driving were preferred against four motorists in the Police Court to-day. Athel Stronach and Leslie E. Anderson were the drivers of cars concerned in a collision on Riccarton Road. The magistrate, Mr. E. D. Mosley, dismissed the charge against Anderson, but convicted Stronach and ordered him to appear before the Court within seven days to produce his licence, which is to be suspended for three months. A fine of £3 and costs was imposed. The magistrate said ho preferred to deal with the licence rather than inflict a heavy fine, which might cause undue hardship. Suspension from driving was a severe punishment. A charge against Albert Buckley, who knocked over a young girl while crossing the footpath into a right-of-way was dismissed. For failing to sound bis horn at an intersection, Peter Cameron was fined 20s and costs. For usiiag an endorsed certificate he was finec'l 20s and costs, and for negligent driving was convicted and fined £5 and costs. His driving licence was suspended until March 31 next, and he was disqualified from obtaining a motor driver's certificate for six months after that date. A FATAL ACCIDENT. CHARGE AGAINST DRIVER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. J PALMERSTON NORTH, Friday. In the Police Court at Woodville today John Drummond, of Dannevirke, was charged with negligently driving a motorcar, thereby causing the death of Georgo Vinton. The charge was a sequel to an accident on the main road near Woodville recently, when accused's car knocked down Vinton, a former Flock House boy,'who subsequently died from injuries. Accused was committed for trial at the next session o!i the Palmerston North Supremo Court, bail being allowed in self, £IOO, and one surety of a similar amount.
