HEAVY RAIN IN DUNEDIN.
INCONVENIENCE TO TRAFFIC.
A TRAMCAR DERAILED
[by telegraph.—press association.]
DUNEDIN-, Friday
Heavy rain was experienced in Dunedin this afternoon. The downpour was a phenomenal one and continued for a couple of hours without any apparent diminution. Though no serious damage was reported, considerable inconvenience was caused at intersections in the city where both foot and vehicular traffic was exceptionally heavy owing to "the five o'clock rush." The storm channels were unable to carry away the heavy volume of water that rushed clown from the hill streets. The Maori Hill tramline was submerged at one point and covered to a depth of several inches with gravel, with the result that the tram was derailed and considerable delay caused. Toward nightfall the rain ceased, but the weather is still threatening.
