SWALLOWING A BROOCH.
<*. WOMAN AT POLICE STATION. "IT WAS MY PROPERTY." At the Sydney Police Court lately Mr. Perry, S.M., remanded a woman defendant for medical observation when informed by the police prosecutor that she had swallowed a brooch. * The woman having b-en fined 10s for offensive behaviour, was further charged with having goods in her custody reasonably suspected of having been stolen. Sergeant Cummings asked that on this charge the woman should be remanded for a week. "It is alleged," he said " that the defendant swallowed a brooch after being arrested and taken to the police station, when it was mentioned to her in connection with surety for bail. She was X-rayed this morning, and is still carrying the brooch." The Defendant; Well, it was my property. Mr. Perry: I think she had better go to Long Bay for a while. She is remanded.
