UNIVERSITY COLLEGE.

PROPOSED NURSES' COURSE. LECTURES ON MUSIC SUBJECTS. The Auckland University College Council met yesterday, the president, the Hon. G-. Fowlds, presiding. A letter from the New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association, asking the council to consider the establishment of a university course for nurses, was referred to the Education Committee. The following donations to the general funds of the college were acknowledged with thanks:—New Zealand Federation of University Women, £25; Real Estate Agents of New Zealand, £2 2s; Auckland Chemical Society, £2 2s. It was resolved thai an assistantlibrarian should be appointed, this being considered an urgent matter owing to the growth of the library. The president reported that under the authority of the council he had appointed a permanent gardener to take full charge of the college grounds. It was resolved to purchase a 24in. motor lawnmower at £lls. The New Zealand Federation of University Women wrote thanking tho council for allocating for its use a room in tho Students' Union Building, The registrar reported the federation was furnishing the room in a style similar to that of tho ojher rooms. The Auckland Agricultural Science Club also thanked the council for placing a room at its disposal during tho year. A letter was received from tho professor of music, stating that, owing to music being made a subject for the B.A degree, it would be necessary to add two or three lectures a week for those students desiring to take music ag one of their subjects, and that one paper "Appreciation of .Music " might be made a sorni-popular lecture to which tho general (student) public, might bo attracted. He inquired if this would meet 1 with tho approval of the council. It was agreed that approval be given. A sub-committee was set up to consider the advissfbility of printing a lecture, " Forestry in Relation to Science and Industry in New Zealand," delivered recently by Professor Corbin.
