DESTRUCTION BY FIRE.
RACING STABLES RAZED. NINE HORSES RESCUED. CANTERBURY ESTABLISHMENT. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHIIISTCHURCH. Monday. The well-known stables belonging to Mr. M. B. Edwards, of Belfast, were destroyed by fire shortly before midnight last night. At the time there were a boot nine trotters in the loose-boxes, but these were all rescued, together with the harness. Five tons of chaff, which had been delivered on Saturday, wore burned with the building, and also 60 bags of oats and two trucks of baled straw. Mr. Edwards has had the stables for six or seven years, and they were among the most up-to-date in Canterbury. OUTBREAKS IH TAHAITAKL TWO HOUSES DEMOLISHED. [BY THLEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] / NEW PLYMOUTH. Monday. Two more fires occurcd in the district during the night. An empty fiv»-roomed cottage on Mangorei Road, owned by Mr.. W. G. Bethell, %vas discovered in flames just before midnight, and was completely destroyed. It was insured in the Standard Office for £350. The owner had visited the property yesterday afternoon and states that ho left everything in order. At about 2 o'clock this morning » farm house at Egmont Village, belonging to Mr. Thomas Carrington, was totally destroyed. The building was insured in the State Office for £550, and the contents in the United Office for £250, including a policy for £llO on a piano. MOTOR-CAE AND OARAGE. THAMES RESIDENT'S LOSS. A fire occurred in a garage in Franklin Street last evening, and although the Thames volunteer firo brigade had a lead of hose on the flames within three minutes of the sounding of the bell, the flames had too strong a hold. A motorcar, the property of Mr. D. Branch, was destroyed, and the garage was gutted. The car was insured. SERVICE CAS AT TAITRANOA. .* BURNED IN THE GARAGE. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TAURANGA. Monday. A seveo-seater motor-car, owned by Mr. Z. Hume, was destroyed by fire early f.hia morning in the owner's garage in r St. John Street. No one noticed the fire, and when Mr. Hume roae at 4.45 a.m. the car was burned, {t was used by the owner in the Tauranga-Waihi service. It was recently completely overhauled and had only been a week in service again. The causa of the firo is a mystery. When the car wins placed in the garage on Saturday evening everything appeared safe, SHOP OP BLIND INSTITUTE. NO EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE. The shop controlled by ths Jubilee Institute for the Blind in Manukao Road was the scene of an outbreak of fire at about hali'-past five last evening. The Parnall fire brigade arrived promptly from the station a few yards away, and the flames wera subdued before extensive damage was caused.
