TAKAPUNA BOROUGH.

TRAM PURCHASE EXPENSES, The Takapnna Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. D. Morison, presiding. Among the accounts passed for payment, was one for £l5B lis, the fee duo to Messrs. Blair Mason, Lee and Brown for their valuation of the property of the Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company and their report on the purchase question; others for £52 10s to Mr. C. F. Alexander for his report on traffic conditions; and £3l 10s to Mr. A. M. Seamau for his investigation of, and report on, the purchase proposal. A letter from Mr. J. W. Williamson with regard to the condition of the rolling stock of tho Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company was ordered to be referred to the company. It was agreed that if the reply of the management was not considered satisfactory, an inspection by the Public Works Department should be asked for. A letter from Mr. C. Mackley protested against tho proposal that the Mil ford Surf Club should bo allowed to erect a clubhouse at the foot of Cecil Road, on the ground that it would create another deadend to a road, of which there were too many examples in the district. A petition* of similar purport was received from ratepayers resident in the neighbourhood of Prater and Cecil Roads and also another protest from Messrs. Brookfield, Prendergast and Schnauer, on behalf of Mr. A. E. Sloman. The matter was referred to tho Public Sendees Committee. It was agreed to co-operate with the other boroughs in arranging a programme for the entertainment of the judges and executive of the coming Royal Agricultural Show on tho day appointed for their visit to the North Shore. Tho whole council was constituted a committee to further the object. The whole council and >ts officials were appointed to represent the borough at the conference of local bodies called bv tho Auckland City Council for November 4. Twelve building permits were granted, ' providing for eight new dwellings and additions to others, the estimated value being £5240.
