MOTOR-BUS BURNED.
AN EARLY MORNING FIRE. •OUTBREAK WHILE IN GARAGE. A spectacular fire caused considerable damage to the interior and bodywork of one of the Royal Motor Bus Company's buses which was being filled with petrol from a bowser pump at the company's garage in St. Mark's Road, Remuera, about 1.30 yesterday morning. The outbreak is attributed to a short circuit on the generator igniting a small quantity of petrol which had been spilled. The Remuera Brigade arrived promptly and was followed by the Parnell Brigade, the fire being quickly suppressed. This interior of the vehicle was extensively damaged, but the engine and chassis were not seriously harmed. The bus was pushed out of the concrete garage in which it was housed after the building had been slightly damaged. The building, which by Mr. R. H. Abbott, and leased by the Royal Motor Bus Company, Ltd., was insured for £2OOO with the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation, Ltd. The bus was insured with the Yorkshire Insurance Company, Ltd. Several windows in a bus standing near the one in which the fire occurred were broken by the heat of the flames.
