There will be general regret throughout swimming circles at an unfortunate accident that occurred to Norman Dowsett, the champion swimmer, to-day. He was riding a motor-cycle and collided with a motor-car, as the result of which he broke his leg. As the New Zealand swimming championships commence at Auckland on Jannary 22 it will be impossible for Dowsett to defend his title. This is all the more regrettable as it is possible that the Olympic team for 1928 will be chosen from the successful competitors at the New Zealand championships held early next year, and Dowsett had a splendid chance of sustaining his position as the fastest 100 yds. swimmer the Dominion has produced. ___________
