INJURY TO WORKMAN.

DAMAGES FROM CITY COUNCIL [r.Y TEI.EGRA PH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. Judgment for £557 12s 5d was given against the City Council by Mr. Justice Ostler in a reserved judgment delivered in the. Supremo Court. The case was one in which a workman, Maguren, proceeded against his employers, the City Council, for damages to the extent of £IOOO on account of injuries which ho suffered as a result of a fall of earth into a trench in which he was working. Admitting negligence on the part of its servants, trie corporation had paid into Court £430 12s 5d as damages, but plaintiff had declined to accept this sum in full settlement of his claim. The judgment included the amount paid into Court.
