RUGBY FOOTBALL.
PRIMARY SCHOOLS TOURNEY. COUNTRY WEEK MATCHES. The annual country week tournament, in which primary school representative teams in the Auckland Province compete for the Northern Roller Mills Shield, was commenced at Eden Park yesterday. The four matches played provided attractive displays 01 Rugby, the results being as follow:—Whangarei, 14, beat Auckland South, 3; Hamilton. 21, beat Auckland North, 16; Thames Valley, 11, beat South Auckland, 0; Auckland Central, 12, heat King Country, 8. Following are the arrangements for today:—Thames Valley v. Auckland Central, No. 2 ground, 1.45, referee Mr. -Crighton; South Auckland v. King Country, No. 3 ground, 2.45, Mr. Moore: Whangarei v. Hamilton, No. 2 ground, '145, Mr. Potter: Auckland South v. Auckland North. No. 3 ground, 1.45, Mr. Barry, All players aro requested to assemble at Eden Park at 1.15 this afternoon, when Mr. H. Frost, chairman of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union, and other members will address the boys. MATCH AT HAMILTON. Junior players selected to travel to Hamilton on Saturday are-requested to meet at the Newton shed to-morrow evening at 7.80, AUCKLAND TEAM'S TOUR, WAIRARAPA MATCH TO-DAY. [BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] MASTERTON. Tuesday. The following is the Auckland team to play Wairarapa to-morrow: —Fullback, Butler: three-quarters. Hook, Lucas, Loft; fiveeignth's, Farmer, Cammick; half, McManus; wing-forward, Batt"; McCarthy, McWilliams, Cathcart, Casey Knight. Hadley. Palmer Emergencies: Backs. Wright, Ifwersen, Freeman; forwards, Finlayson. Webber. Finlayson and Ifwersen are not playing owing to injuries received at Napier. Mr. A. E. Freeman, formerly of Auckland, will referee the game. THE THAMES UNION. ARRANGEMENT OF MATCHES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES, Tuesday. A general meeting of Rugby players was called by the Thames Rugby Union last evening to consider a. 'scheme of insurance for players, details of which have already been published. The response was disappointing, only three or four players attending, and it was resolved to defer the matter until the nest annual meeting. At a meeting of the Management Committee a letter was read from Mr. J. W Reid, of Foxton, offering his services as organiser of a queen carnival in aid of any object the union might have in view. He had recently organised a carnival at r oxton. which yielded £9ll. It was considered probable that the union could avail itself of the offer about February, 1927. The Hamilton Rugby Union submitted the names of Messrs. Brydon. senr., and Rabono as referees available for Peace Cup matches. City third were granted permission to travel to Waihi on Saturday, August 28, with Mr. Lanning as manager. The Thames Jockey Club, declined to accede to a lequest from the union for a reduction in the racecourse rental. Mr. Gilmore was appointed manager of a junior representative team to play at Ngatea. on Saturday next. Fixtures for Saturday were drawn as follows :—Ramblers v. Old Boys, Parawai No. I, at 1.40 p.m.. referee, Mr. F. Vedder: City v. : Physical Training, No. 1, at 3 p.m., referee, Mr. J. Buchan. ' . , A request on behalf of the Thames junior representatives for a game with the Thames B senior representatives was granted, provided the selector could field a B representative team on the approved date. TAIHAPE REPRESENTATIVES. TEAM TO PLAY RANGITIKEI. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAIHAPE, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Taihape Rugby Subunion last evening final arrangements were made for the visit of Rangitikei, challengers for the Pownall trophy, on Saturday.' It was decided that the Taihape representatives should visit Ohakune to play Ruapshu on September 4. • The junior teams will play at Taihape. The following senior representatives were selected to represent Taihape on Saturday Fullback, R. Emergencies: Backs, W. McLennan; W. Collier; forwards, W. Sinclair, Loughnan. GAME IN THE FAR NORTH. THE SOUTHERNERS' TOUR, [BY TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Tuesday. The North Auckland Rugby Union's effort to foster the Rugby game in the Far North by sending a team, representative of the four Southern sub-unions, restated in the disclosure that Rugby was . a good deal stronger in the North than had been anticipated. The Southern team was a good one, but it failed'to-secure one win in the four ijames played, and scored only 9 points on the tour, compared with 42 registered against.it.
