BISHOP KEMPTHORNE'S VISIT. EDUCATION- WORK IN FIJI. • • After , visiting various islands ,i n > the Pacific, Bishop Kempthorne, Bishop of Polynesia, arrived- at Auckland yesterday by H.M.S. Diomede. Bishop; Kempthorne has been making one- of .his; periodical, visits to settlements,, where no mission stations are established ; 'Uesjoined the Diomede at Suva on July 10,' and visited'..Bora • Bora, Papeete, Rarotonga, Vavau, and Niikuaj lofa. Owing to an outbreak of- influenza at "Nukualofa all 'places of . amusement were ordered to be closed, and no meetings were allowed to . be-, held. In the circumstances Bishop" Kempthorne decided to come on to Auckland; Two cases of influenza had proved fatal .but the - epidemic was waning when the .warship leffct •/ Discussing the work in the islands,, Bishop Kempthorne said the Anglican mission's educational activities in Fiji were to be doubled in the near future. The staff had already been' increased by two, and it. was hoped very soon to have a large', school for boys and girls in full swing, in co-operation with the Wesleyan Mission. In addition a new district had been created at Laiitoka, and a minister had recently arrived from England to take up the vvo^k.
