WANGANUI COLLISION.
TRAM AND MOTOR-LORRY. FRONT PLATFORM DAMAGED. MOTORMAN AND WOMAN . Cbi- telegraph.—own correspondent.] "WANGANUI, Friday. A sensational accident occurred in the Avenue this morning when a tramcar, on its way to Aramoho, collided with a heavily-ladened motor-lorry. The collision took, .place at the intersection of Liverpool Street and the Avenue. The lorry, which was conveying, a load of metal for the Cherry Bank Metal Company, crossed the track just as the tramcar was approaching it. The motonnau, Mr. R. Pitt, applied his biakes immediately, but it was too late to avoid the collision which resulted in the tramcar , being derailed and the front part of the car,* principally the motorman's platform, : being. smashed in, Mr. Pitt became jammed in the wreckage and it was some little time before ho was released, suffering from severe shock and abrasions "on his legs and arms. Several passengers were thrown across the car by the force of the impact but no one was hurt, excepting Mrs. Green, of Harrison Street, who was very badly bruised. The traffic was disorganised for a short time but the car was eventually restored to the train track and conveyed back to the shed for repairs. The conductor was standing at the back of the car and escaped injury.
