A suggestion that the Wellington Chamber of Commerce should point out to American exporters that they cannot, reasonably expect this country to buy their goods when, by high and arbitrarily fixed customs tariffs in the United States, they seek to prohibit the importations of NewZealand primary products, was made to the chamber to-night by a well-known Wellington firm, " They practically say to us," stated the communication, " that they will not take our goods in payment for theirs. They have extremely heavy duties against our wool, moat, cheese, butter, etc.. mid in fact all the main products of this country, and yet they are looking to do an increased trade with us in what they produce. They can't have it both ways. If they will not permit us to pay for importations from America in what we ourselves produce, then they must bo content to stand by and let us foster the trade of the United Kingdom, which takes from us without restrictive duties practically everything we produce." It was decided to write to the American Export Association pointing out the position in New Zealand.
