WINTER COMPETITIONS. The ninth programme of events in connection with the series of 'winter sports promoted by the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club will be, decided at the Outer Domain this afternoon commencing at two o'clock. 1 Handicaps have been declared by Sir. Thirty-one competitors are engaged in the discus and javelin throwing and shot-putting handicaps, and the adjustments will be made known on the ground. A broad jump handicap will be decided should the turf not be treacherous. Permission has been kindly granted by the Auckland Trotting Club for the holding of several events, including a five miles cross-country race, at Alexandra Park, Epsom, on Saturday next. This event will be in the nature of a championship with' a sealed handicap, and should serve as an excellent introduction to the New Zealand cross-country championship to be held on the same course a week later. CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP. The New Zealand Cross-country Championship Meeting, to be held at Alexandra Park, Epsom, on September 4, promises to attract competitors from each centre in the Dominion. Otago, Canterbury and Wellington will be strongly represented, and Auckland should have a better team than was thought possible a few weeks ago. Nominations for the championship and the handicap events will close on Wednesday.
