FALL FROM TRAMCAR.

WOMAN STRUCK BY MOTOR. THE' MOUNT EDEN ACCIDENT. An inquest concerning the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Craig, • aged 69, who died in the Auckland Hospital on August 11 as the result of injuries received two days before through being struck by a motorcar after falling from a moving tramcar in Mount Eden Road, was held yesterday before Mi 1 . F. K. Hunt, S.M., coroner. George Frederick Hollay, land agent, said he was motoring in Mount Eden Road at about 5.50 p.m. On approaching the intersection of Rautan'gi Road he saw a tram stop at Oaklands Road, about 200 yds. ahead. He had his lights dimmed and was travelling at about ten miles an hour. Suddenly he saw something lying on the road in front of him. He was about Six or seven feet from the object, and immediately applied his brakes. He pulled up in ab6ut 6ft. and found a woman under the car, her clothes being caught in the driving shaft. He had just gone round a curve and directly his lights turned on the body on the road he saw it. , •' Andrew Craig, son of deceased, said his mother left him at 5.15 p.m. to catch a Mount Albert tramcar.

Constable Ryan said he ascertained that deceased had intended to board a Mount Albert car, but by mistake got into a Mount Eden car. . Several witnesses said deceased either stepped or fell off the tram while it was in motion and fell on to the roadway. There was no tram stop at Rautangi Road. Dr. A. R. Mowlem said deceased sustained a fracture of the skull. She did not recover consciousness. Her injuries were more probably caused by falling from the tramcar than by being run over by the motor-car. The coroner, in returning a formal verdict, said that no blame was attachable either to the tramway crew or the driver of the motor-car.
