POSITION IN MEXICO.
LYNCHING STORY DENIED. ROMAN CATHOLICS DISARMED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 8.5 p.m.) Reuter. WASHINGTON. July 29. The Mexican Embassy has issued a statement in reference to the report that the Mayor ■ of Nocliistan, Senhor Cervantes, was lynched by peasants who were incensed by the fatal shooting of a priest. The statement says the Embassy is in a position to deny the story, which in this case was not merely exaggerated, as most of the news regarding the religious situation in Mexico was, but was absolutely false. A message from Mexico City states that the Attorney-General, Senhor Ortega, has ordered all Roman Catholics in Mexico to be disarmed. This action is due to reports received by the authorities of secret meetings which it is feared have been held for the purpose of developing opposition to the new laws restricting religious activities in the country.
