WAR MEMORIAL FUND. MAINTENANCE OF ROADS. fBY TELEGRAPH. —OWN VOREESPONDENT.] THAMES. Tuesday. A movement that is meeting with some enthusiasm locally is a proposal to organise a citizens' ball on September 6, in aid of the war memorial lighting fund and the new Rugbv ground at Para\vai.

At a meeting of the promoters Mr. E. N. Miller laid stress on the fact that, the memorial fund was the more worthy object. It was hoped to raise £3OO, of which he suggested £2OO be devoted to the memorial and £IOO to the Rugby ground. This suggestion was adopted and committees were appointed to proceed with the scheme.

A quarterly communication .of the officers of fhe Masonic Provincial Grand Lodge was held last evening, in conjunction with the installation of Mr. E. Watson as worshipful master of the Lodge of Light. Mr. W. B. McDonald was presented with an arm chair, as an appreciation of the many services rendered bv him to the lodge during the past four years.

The main roading routes througnout tlhe Hauraki Plains district, particularly in the Ngatea locality, are being kept well up to standard. Boat loads of red metal are coming to hand regularly, and tihe employment of six motor trucks is ensuring a quick distribution on the roads. Supplies have also been landed at other points and will be conveyed to the roads requiring attention as soon us possible.

The Hauraki Plains A. and P. Association has promoted a £SOO art union, by permission of the Minister of Internal Aifairs, for the purpose bf raising money to pay off a mortgage of £I3OO and to make further improvements to the showgrounds at Kerepeehi.
