KOWHAI HIGH SCHOOL.

PARENTS' REPRESENTATIVES

RESULT OF THE ELECTION. TWO LADIES ON COMMITTEE. The election of householders' representatives on the committee of the Kowhai Junior High School was held last evening. There was an, attendance of about 40, Mr. S E. Chappell, chairman of the retiring committee, presiding. There were six candidates for the four vacancies, those elected being: Mrs. Ethel Wilson Wilson, Mr. Albert James Le Roy, Mrs. Elsie Annie Smythe, and Mr. Augustas Ashbury Buckley. The unsuccessful candidates were Messrs. Harry Lemon Allport and Francis Arthur May. The three retiring members were Messrs. Le Roy and May and Mrs. Wilson. ,The chairman said this was the first meeting of parents of pupils of a junior high school yet held in New Zealand. Two years ago only three nominations of parents' representatives were received for three vacancies, so that no meeting was necessary. The committee's report and balancesheet were favourably commented upon and were , adopted. The balance-sheet showed there was a balance of £99 5s in iiie bank. The total expenditure for the two years amounted to £1075, including caretaker's salaries and cleaning, £586, water £IOO, repairs to building and furniture £lll. The grounds fund showed a total expenditure of £1324, the balance being £8 16s.

There was considerable discussion concerning the amount of £IOO paid for water. The chairman said the Mount Albert Borough.Council had made the. full charge for water supplied to the school; although .primary, schools , wera given water free. The committee had. requested the council to. make a reduction, but 110 satisfaction had been received as yet. A resolution was passed suggesting that should the committee fail to obtain satisfaction from the council, further action should be taken.

The headmaster, Mr. 11. E. Rudman K said the trustees of Eden Park had rendered the school a great service by allowing the boys to practise football at the park. The caretaker, Mr. G. Mills, had shown great courtesy to the boys and had taken a keen interest in them. It was decided to send letters of appreciation to the trustees' and Mr; Mills.
