MANY THEFTS COMMITTED.
TWICE ESCAPED FROM WERAROA.
[Bi* TELEGRAPH. —I'RESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON NORTH. Monday. A Maori youth, John Tahu Andrews, aged 16 years, who appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day, admitted theft of articles from a dwelling near Shannon, and, also six charges of theft, between July, 6 and July 21, at Kilbirrue, Miramar, Levin and Buckley, in conjunction with a youth who was dealt with in the Children's Court. Accused also admitted stealing property and cash at Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay, Woodville and Carterton. Senior-Sergeant O'Grady said that accused had been an inmate ot' Weraroa training farm for some time. With the other boy mentioned, on July 6, he escaped from the farm ana they were arrested at Woodville on July 8. During their brief period oi' liberty, they committed many theft?-. Stowing away on a train, they had proceeded to Wellington, then to Carterton, aud later to Woodville. Taken' bapk to Wctaroa, they escaped again on July 20, again starting off on a career of crime. Both were out of control of tho Weraroa authorities, and were- a menace to tho settlers in the district; " /.v- . . .... Accused was sent to the Borstal Institute at Invercargill for three years.
