DEFAULTERS FROM DRILL.
YOUTH FINED SIX POUNDS. DEMANDS MUST BE FULFILLED. " If the country demands you to do your drill, you should do it," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday to Reginald Arthur Kingsboer, charged with failure to notify change of address, and making a false statement to the military authorities. It was stated that defendant deliberately tried to evade drill. He told tho authorities hp was going to work on a farm at Mangaweka, outside the effective area, whereas a week later he was found working for an Auckland firm. The Magistrate: What are you earning? Defendant: Four pounds a week. The Magistrate: Well, you are finfld £4, with costs, on one cfutrge and £2, with costs, on the other. For failure to attend drill, Archibald Gleu Millar Callander, who it was stated had not attended parades for a long time, was fined £5, with costs. Similar offences cost Wilfred Malcolm Edmonds, Albert D. Eaton and Robert Sheddon each £2, with costs, and John James Reed . and Frank Scholium each £l, with costs.
