LAND AGENTS CONFER.

THE REAL ESTATE INSTITUTE. DECISIONS AT HAMILTON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON'. Wednesday. The annual conference of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand was opened in Hamilton this morning. Mr. P. B. Foote presided over an attendance of 28, including representatives from all parts of the Dominion. The Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow, in welcoming the visitors, emphasised the importance of the work done by the institute in eliminating the undesirable element from the occupation, and in protecting the interests of the public. Mr. A. Sorby, on behalf of the Waikato land agents, welcomed the delegates. After the president had replied the meeting then went into committee to consider a long series of remits. It was resolved that future applicants should pass an examination and qualify for the Real Estate Institute's diploma before being admitted to the institute. The examination committee reported that for the first examination, to be held toward the end of the year, 96 entries had been received. Other remits adopted were:-r-That the rule governing division of commission be amended so as to provide that when an agent is in another town the share of commission payable to the introducing agent shall be one-third of of the gross commission earned, instead of one-half as at present. That all affiliated associations be urged to encourage their members to supersede the title of "land agent" by the title of "real estate agent." That further efforts be made to obtain a uniform tariff throughout the Dominion. That strong representation be made by all associations that the authority to sell should be obtained in writing. That in the case of introduction of buyers between agents the time for which such introduction should hold good be six months. Affiliated associations were recommended to adopt the title "Real Estate Institute" in each case.
