DROWNING ACCIDENTS.
LOSS* OF TWO LIVES, FISHING BOAT CAPSIZES. FATALITY NEAR WHITIANGA. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHITIANGA. Monday. A resident of Mercury Bay, Mr. Watson Oxley, an unmarried man, 45 years of age, was accidentally drowned on Saturday. Deceased, with two brothers, had a fishing camp at Purangi, about three miles from Whitianga. At 9 a.m. he left the camp in a boat to lay down a mooring for a crayfish .tank. At 2 p.m. Mr. Woodhead, when crossing the bar in his launch, noticed Mr. Oxley's boat floating bottom upward. He immediately informed the two brothers at the cahip and a search was made. At 4 p.m. Mr. Oxley's body was found close to the shore. The body was then taken to Whitianga. An inquest was held, the coroner returning a» verdict that deceased met his death by accidental drowning. YOUTH MEETS HIS DEATH. BODY FOUND OX CREEK BANK. {by TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.! W AIM ATE. Monday. A youth, Harry Reynolds, aged 17 years, was drowned in a creek oh Saturday night. Deceased had been eel-fishing with a companion. At 11 o'cloclc they parted to go home, and deceased walked away along the bank of the creek. The next morning it was discovered that Reynolds was missing. A search led to the finding of his body on the bank of the creek. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
