PNEUMONIC INFLUENZA.
POSITION IN AUCKLAND. WEEK-END NOTIFICATIONS. Only three cases of pneumonic influenza, at Tuakau, Cambridge and Rotorua, have been reported to the Auckland health office since Saturday. For the week ended noon yesterday, 25 notifications were received and eight deaths occurred. The Central Auckland district accounted for 13 cases, South Auckland for 7, North Auckland for 3, and CorOmandel-Opotiki for 2. Five of the? deaths occurred in South Auckland and three in Central Auckland. ON WANE IN WELLINGTON."*' GETTING BACK TO NORMAL. [BY TELEGRAPH.—rPKESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Monday. It was stated to-day that the influenza epidemic is decidedly on the wane. The worst* is past and business places, colleges and schools are gradually getting back to normal. There is still a fair proportion of absentees, but there are very few serious cases, the epidemic, comparatively speaking, being in a mild form. CASES IN CANTERBURY. ELEVEN MORE REPORTED. [by telegraph.—peess association.] CHRISTCHURCH. Monday. For the period from noon on Saturday till noon to-day eleven cases of pneumonic influenza were reported. Of the total six were in the city and. one each was reported from Hurunui, Methven, Waimairi, Hillmorten and Ashburton. One death took place in the city. The fact that the number of cases reported in the city was about the daily average during the past week is considered as indicating that the position is fairly satisfactory. . In the Canterbury and West Coast health districts 46 cases of pneumonic influenza (three from the West Coast) were reported for the week ended at noon to-day, as compared with' 27 (all in the Canterbury health district) in the previous week. Deaths in the Canterbury district last week totalled six and in the previous week five. REPORT FROM ASHBURTON. TWO DEATHS SINCE SATURDAY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ASHBURTON. Monday. There were two deaths here from pneumonic-influenza during ,the weekend. One patient was a woman who resided in the borough, and the other was a girl, aged 15 years, from Methven.
