THE DUKE OF YORK.

VISIT TO AUSTRALIA. OFFICIAL STATEMENT SHORTLY. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 9.5 p.m.) LOND.ON, July 17. An official pronouncement regarding the forthcoming vi«it cf the Duke oi York to Australia will be published next week. It will appear simultaneously in Britain and Australia. The details of the journey will be subject to further consideration, particularly as to whether the Duchess of York and their child, the Princess Elizabeth, will accompany the Duke. Should the Duk- of York undertake the journey alone i f is proposed to follow the precedent established by the Prince of Wales, of utilising a warship. If lie is accompanied by the Duchess and her feminine entourage, it will be necessary to charter a mail boat, following the King s precedent of 1901, because a warship has been found to be not adaptable for accommodating womenfolk and children. Nevertheless, it is possible that a mail boat, if used. ma> be escorted by one of the most modern battleships.

SIR JAMES ALLEN. AUDIENCE WITH THE KING. (Reed. 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 17. The ex-High Commissioner for New Zealand, Sir James Allen, to-day had an audience with the King at His Majesty's request.
