MODERATOR OF ASSEMBLY.

COMING VISIT TO THE' CITY.

The • Auckland Presbytery met yesterday, the Moderator, the Rev. R. S. Watson," presiding. A resolution or. sympathy was passed with Mr. B. H. McKinney, in the accidental' 'death" of "his son, Mr; R. McKinney, at Waiuku last Friday. The Rev. N. 0. White was appointed compiler of statistics for the Presbytery. The Rev. George Budd reported that Mr. A. R. Cuthbertson had been appointed' to take charge of the Maungaturoto parish, and that the Home Mission Committee was on thfe look-out for suitable men for Belmont and Kaikohe. ft had" been decided to make a grant of £25 to the officers of the Henderson charge for the present year. Leave of absence was granted to the Rev. J. D. McKcnzie, of Edendale, owing to ill-health. , Mr. McKenzie informed the Presbytery that he would shortly visit Ne\. Hebrides, and while there he would represent the New Zealand ehurch at a meeting , of Synod. ; An additional three months' leave of absence was granted to the Rev. W. McDonald, whose illness . has prevented the resumption of his duties. The Rev. J. 11-ibbard .reported on the visitation of the Pokeno Home Mission charge. Excellent work had been done by Mr. Stuart, the missionary, under whose ministry great progress was being made.

Mattel's in conection with the forthcoming visit to Auckland of the Rev. John Kilpa trick, Moderator of the General Assembly, were discussed, and a provisional* itinerary was- placed before the Presbytery. After some * discussion it was resolved to abolish the Business Committee, it being considered that it saved very "little work for the clerk.

The report of the Temperance Committee stated that this year the alliance was extending its activities to securing a two-issue ballot paper, and -to making representation!" foi . the stiffening-up of the licensing laws. In future no conferences would be held with the liquor party.
