WAR FUNDS COUNCIL.
RECONSTITUTION DESIRED. REQUEST TO THE GOVERNMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH.-—PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Government is to be asked by the conference concerning war funds administration, which was held in Wellington today, to reconstitute the National War Funds Council, so that members shouild be nominated annually by patriotic societies and appointed by the Government. It was stated that neither the advisory board nor the council had actively functioned for some time. It was also decided to recommend that the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association should have increased direct representation on the War Funds Council. CANTEEN TBUST FUNDS. QUESTION OF FUTURE USE. [by telegraph.—press association.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. According to information supplied to the conference of bodies concerned in the administration of patriotic and war funds to-day, the Canteen Regimental Trust Fund had in hand £IBO,OOO. It was stated that this money was being conserved with an eye to the future when the funds of other societies would be exhausted, and when there would be an urgent call for accumulated funds. It was estimated that in a very few years the amount would be brought to £200,000. The conference was asked to express an opinion upon the question of assistance to patriotic societies when their present funds were exhausted. The meeting decided that it was the duty of the War Funds Council to provido funds to assist patriotic societies whose funds were exhausted.
